Like most newcomers, I immediately hit the classic spots: crammed into tapas bars in La Latina, hunted through the crowds at El Rastro flea market, admired masterpieces in the Prado Museum, and walked up and down Gran V\u00eda. (Full disclosure: I still haven\u2019t made it to the infamous 7-story nightclub, Teatro Kapital, but it\u2019s on the list!).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Yet, while exploring the city<a href=\"https:\/\/jaleomadrid.com\/es\/cursos-de-espanol](https:\/\/jaleomadrid.com\/cursos-de-espanol\/\"> outside of Spanish classes at <b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"60\">Jaleo Madrid<\/b><\/a>, I discovered incredible places that completely blew me away\u2014and they aren\u2019t the ones plastered across generic travel guides. If you want to experience the authentic side of the city, here are three secret spots you shouldn\u2019t miss.<\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"10\">1. Catching the Sunset at the Temple of Debod (Templo de Debod)<\/h2>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">This place feels surreal because it\u2019s an authentic ancient Egyptian temple sitting right in the middle of Madrid. Head over right before sunset. Because the park sits high up on the western edge of the city, it offers some of the best panoramic views of <b data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"195\">Madrid\u2019s skyline<\/b>. The sky turns incredible shades of orange and pink, and the floodlit temple mirrors perfectly in the surrounding reflecting pools. It\u2019s completely free and a favorite gathering spot for locals and students to unwind.<\/p>\n<h2 data-path-to-node=\"13\">2. However, few visitors actually step inside, which is a major missed opportunity. Formerly Madrid\u2019s central post office and telephone hub, it has been transformed into a massive cultural and civic space.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">What to do inside:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"16\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Visit CentroCentro:<\/b> Explore the building&#8217;s rotating modern art exhibits and historical photo archives documenting Madrid&#8217;s urban evolution.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Grab a rooftop drink at Azotea Cibeles:<\/b> Head up to the 6th floor for an incredible bird\u2019s-eye view looking straight down at the <b data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"128\">Cibeles Fountain<\/b> and the start of Gran V\u00eda.
